Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration Program Description
Graduates of the Health Care Administration program are important members of the health care community. They work closely with an array of health care providers to ensure that patients receive quality service and care. Graduates of the program manage environments that may range from a specific clinical area or department to a physicians’ practice, or even an entire facility.
Program Level Student Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate and apply knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources, leadership, quality management, and marketing.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the framework in which health care services are coordinated, delivered, consumed, and reimbursed.
- Demonstrate an ability to apply principles and processes for providing effective customer care and services, including needs assessments and application of quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Demonstrate a command of the principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiations, and personnel information systems.
- Develop the capacity to maintain awareness of advances in medicine, computerized diagnostic and treatment equipment, data processing and records technology, government regulations, health insurances changes and financing options.
The HCA Program serves a variety of purposes:
- This program prepares individuals to develop, plan and manage health care operations and services within health care facilities and across health care systems. Instruction focuses on health care finance and economics, managed care, and quality standards.
- The program also emphasizes core business principles including financial management, public relations, human resources management, health care systems operations and management, health care resource allocation and policy, and health law and regulations, with applications to specific types of health care services.
- This program is designed to assist graduates in key competency areas that may lead to certification in the discipline such as the Certified Medical Manager (CMM) available through the Professional Association for Health Care Office Management (PAHCOM) after two years of health care industry experience in support of patient care.
