Loans

Loans are available from federal, state or private sources to help eligible students cover the cost of their education at GSC. Loans are monies that are borrowed and must be repaid.

Federal Student Loans

Apply for federal student loans by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Direct Subsidized Stafford Loan

A federal loan available to undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need. The federal government pays the interest while the borrower is enrolled at least half-time, and for six months after graduation. The lifetime aggregate limit a student may borrow is $23,000.

Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan

A federal loan available to all students; there is no requirement to demonstrate financial need. Students are required to pay interest during the lifetime of the loan. The borrower may choose to pay the interest charged on the loan as it is assessed or can allow the interest to be capitalized (added to the principal). The lifetime aggregate for dependent students is $31,000; no more than $23,000 can be subsidized loans.  The lifetime aggregate for independent students is $57,500: no more than $23,000 can be subsidized loans.

Direct PLUS Loans

A credit based federal loan that parents of dependent students can borrow to pay for their child’s education. Parents are responsible for all interest charges. Payment begins 45-60 days after the loan is fully disbursed unless a deferment is requested from the lender. The parent may borrow up to the full cost of attendance minus any additional financial aid received by the student.
